PROJECT INTRO
Planet Fun, New Zealand’s largest distributor of toys and games, needed a digital platform capable of showcasing thousands of products without overwhelming users or losing the playful energy at the heart of the brand.
I led the UX and visual design direction for the redesign, creating a more intuitive, responsive and content-rich experience that balanced large-scale product discovery with interaction, storytelling and fun.
Challenge
The existing site struggled with complex navigation, limited product visibility and an experience that didn’t reflect the scale or personality of the brand. Alongside improving usability, the platform also needed to support a rapidly growing digital media strategy targeting younger, digital-native audiences.

approach
We focused on simplifying the browsing experience through clearer information architecture, stronger visual hierarchy and more intuitive navigation patterns across desktop and mobile.
A key feature of the experience was the introduction of curated wishlists – allowing children to create and share product collections with caregivers and family members. This became the foundation for a wider seasonal campaign strategy centred around “Creating Your Christmas Wishlist.”
The project also included a custom B2B portal with live stock integration, giving retail partners access to ordering tools, shipment visibility and streamlined inventory management.

OUtcome
The final site brought together functionality, personality and play in a way that felt engaging for both kids and parents alike.
New features like shareable wish-lists, “Kidstagram” and the “Find a Stockist” tool helped drive stronger engagement, referral traffic and mobile interaction, while giving the brand a more connected digital ecosystem overall.
The response from both the client and internal team was incredibly positive, with the project quickly becoming a favourite internally thanks to its energy, creativity and user-focused thinking.
